First time taking the train up from down south tomorrow (usually in the car).

I've booked myself on the train out of Lime Street at 17.47. What are my chances of making that, either train from Kirkdale or taxi, if I leave at the final whistle?

Depends how quick you can get the taxi mate, id order it to outside the general area of the match and walk up to like the wine bar area which will shave off some time

Many times I have been on that train, sometime make it back to LS with 20 mins to spare, other times right down to the wire. Usually I manage to get a bus from alongside Stanley Park. Times though I have had to keep walking down to St Domingos Rd and hope to god to flag down an empty taxi coming back towards the ground. I normally try and get a ticket in the Park End to give myself every chance of getting a bus.

Horrific train fares tomorrow. £82.40 return from Euston!

Train would be cutting it fine. You'd have to be out of the ground pronto and make a dash for the one that leaves Kirkdale about 20 past which'd get you into Central abar half past.

Ten mins walk ahould easily get you to Lime St train door to train door though, unless you're hammered and staggering a lot.

Virgin don't care about courting football fans. The group travel fares they offer are all over the place, depending on demand from other travellers. My supporters' club, ESCLA, aren't running a trip tomorrow because the group fare is so high (much worse than £82.40!). Generally, the group fare is closer to £45, for the Stoke game, it is as low as £20, which is very rare to have so low. Prices all over the place and hard to plan going to games not knowing how much it will be.

I'm going to Euston to Stockport and being picked up there by a friend, saves me £30+ on the return fare. I've also got the Faversham to St Pancras return to contend with as well!

Bit in bold - believe me they do care about football fans in as much as they know the fixtures and raise the prices accordingly. They know Tottenham fans are going to have to be on certain trains in order to make the game/get home. When we play London teams at home I would normally break the journey at Birmingham or Wolverhampton, then get a London Midland up to Liverpool. A lot of time this helps cut the cost, although it is obviously more of a faff. Anything to get one over on those robbers!
