Track Days

Hello everyone.

Has anyone ever been on those track days they do in awesome super cars?

I really fancy one and want to know how the days goes, and if it's worth it really?

They are usually like Lambos, Ferrari's etc...

I've seen one (at Thruxton I think) where I can drive 4 American muscle cars and that is right up my street.

But it's not cheap.

Anyone ever done one?

My mrs bought me a trackday as an engagement present.

I did 3 laps in a Ferrari 360 and 3 in a Lambo Gallardo. Obviously the driving was fun but you spend most of the day waiting for your turn so if the weather's bad it might spoil it a bit.

They have cameras all over the car so you can buy a memory stick with it all on and watch the bit where you get it wrong and poop yourself.

Would you say it's worth it mate?

Why don't you just rent one? I rented an Aston for my 30th it wasn't expensive either ( large deposited though) and as you needed to be 30 to rent it, I had to wait until the day after.

Interesting idea.

Could I hire like a Shelby GT500?! Is that even possible?!

Yeah.

You'll come away thinking "If I sell my nice comfy car I could buy a ****ty old BMW or Porsche, strip it out and do more track days. I don't really need back seats and sound deadening? I don't even notice it's there!"

I did a day at Mercedes Benz world, you get to do a bit of everything, 0-60 tests, drifting round the skid pan, track stuff and also their 4x4 on a proper off road course, was about £300 i think and well worth it, plus you get to learn all sorts of interesting stuff about how the cars do what they do. We got to pick from 4 Mercs and we could either do a long stint in one or swap over after bit.

I done one a couple of years ago in a Ferrari. It was boss but the track wasn't that big so you couldn't really let it go too much. Once you put your foot on the accelerator you see where all that money goes.

I'd like to do one, i'm regarded as being that belter driver by my mates so it'd be good to see how i'd do on a track. Years ago we took chase in an M5, never quite reached that level of thrill ever since as andreneline levels were pumped right up.

I did this one (Lambo vs Ferrari_and also a Jonathan Palmer raceday which consists of different driving disciplines) VW Corrado VR6's, Caterham Super 7's, Mercedes Sprint, Formula 3000, etc etc.

The Palmer day was a corporate do - but if you can afford it I'd look into that - If they still do it!

I bought one for the missus. She enjoyed it, but my hard earned was spent in around 6 minutes of driving. Also, while I was there, the driving company was offering the same experience for half the price I'd paid the Internet middlemen. We are "rip off britain" after all, there are all those middle men you don't know about until after, who 'have' to make a profit by not actually owning, maintaining or insuring the track or car.

If I were doing it again I'd contact the track people directly.
