I thought it was a joke at first. Quite incredible. Working people's lives reduced to beer and bingo. I also especially liked the use of the word "they", to make the distinction between them and us plebs.

Might as well have just said said "Let the eat cake".
 
On the part of Shapps and Osborne yes, but the Twittersphere responses are extremely witty.

It has struck a nerve with the electorate because nobody has ever believed "We are all in this together". Deep down everyone knows it is "them and us" not "we" where the Tories are concerned..

I dare say that whatever happens, those in the Westminster trough will be largely unaffected by it all, regardless of which stripe they represent.
 
gimmick policies ..cant stand them, same with workers in emergency services not having to pay inheritcance tax or whatever it was..WHY??

Probably because they're cutting armed forces back and need to put a sweetener in there. I've not qualm over this one TBH. But on the flip side my pint has got 1p cheaper :)
