thinking if buying my grandson a Horsfield Tortoise for his 1st birthday.
My first shock was how much they are - £130
My second shock was the accessories you need to buy for them

Times have changed from when I was a kid...

What accessories does a tortoise actually need?

just get a bag of sawdust for them to sleep in and buy them a couple of lettuces to eat every now and again. Can't be hard work to keep a turtle?

Needs UV lighting and a warm place for the winter
With Tortoise it comes to around £250

I think I will have to get everything as my record as a kid getting a Tortoise through winter is a big fat zero

get some guinea pigs or rabbits from a rescue centre, cheaper and you will have done a good deed

He will like it for all of 5 mins probably pick it up and drop it . Plus won't it sleep for the winter..
