Collision according to a mate that works there, that's the rumour. Reading that story it sounds like two aircrew are missing also.

I'll go ask around and see what the chat is.

Search still ongoing but the lack of any sort of locator beacon is an ominous sign.

Awful for the families and the squadron involved.

Horrible

Thoughts are with the families of the missing missing aircrew

Terrible. Hoping for the best. We lost a C-130 H while it was fighting fires in South Dakota. It was using the MAFFS system. Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System. It is a beast of a contraption that is loaded in the Herc and can dump 3,000 gallons of flame retardant chemicals on Wilfires. Here is a pic of the rig:

This is a shot of what it looks like when it sprays out the troop door. The old MAFFS system expelled the material from the ramp.

Apparently just after dropping it's load on the fire, they hit a severe downdraft or microburst and didn't have the altitude to recover. We have heard reports that two crew members were rescued. So it looks like the other four were lost. Two have been confirmed so far. ****ty week. Two Tornadoes and a Herc.

Called off the search for the night.

There's unconfirmed rumours that one of the pilots winched from the sea died in hospital.

A bad day for the RAF family.

Search and rescue operation suspended now. It will resume tomorrow, weather permitting but as a salvage operation.

One of the two found has now been officially confirmed dead.

I don't personally know any Tornado aircrew, having never worked fast jets, but I've got a lot of mates and former colleagues who work as groundcrew on 12 and 15 squadrons. F*cking heartbroken tonight. Thoughts and prayers with the families who are waiting for the worst possible news and those who have already received it. Praying the other lad pulls through but he's critical still in hospital.

Per Ardua, Ad Astra. RIP boys.

My old company made the jets and refurbished them, we used to see the guys all the time mixing with our pilots. The manufacturers feel the pain just like the military......

A lot of manpower and working hours goes into putting those boys into the air. When something goes wrong, we all feel it. A sad time for everyone in the aviation industry, top to bottom.
