Alive or dead as it's a hypothetical. There are actually bands I prefer overall (albums etc.) than those on the list - such as RHCP/Green Day - but in terms of a live act, where showmanship and presence counts, mine would be:
QUEEN
Obvious reasons. Mercury was astonishing. Incredible songs.
DAVID BOWIE
So many amazing songs and by all accounts fantastic live. Life on Mars?, Space Oddity live would be tremendous.
PRINCE
If I could go back in time to one concert during my lifetime and be there live, it'd be the 2007 Superbowl Half Time show. The energy in that set was simply ridiculous. His cover of Best of You was uniquely brilliant; the consummate showman, ridiculously underrated.
BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN
Only started listening to Bruce recently and his back catalogue surprised me. Quality, depth and still sounds relevant - and apparently he's majestic live.
MICHAEL JACKSON
No explanation really necessary. Arguably the greatest all round performer ever.
