nice simple cheery post for a monday night

thoughts? i think its good he's getting a court case to discuss it, whatever your opinion the fact that someone in pain cant decide their own fate has to be discussed at the highest level

Is that the bloke who can't move his body or talk but has a completely able mind? I saw him on the news before if so, i also made sure my family aware that if anything like that happened to me then i'd rather die then be a prisoner in my own body.

If he wants to go then it's wrong to stop him.

this is the problem, they could be convicted for murder

Of course every person has the right to ask someone to kill them if they cannot do it themselves.

Its a tricky situation in law due to possible abuse though but the Government should look at exploring all posible ways of legalising it and eliminating any possible abuse of the law.

Problem is, you cannot have a law in place that is written with one person in mind, it has to be applicable to everyone, so although I hope he gets his wish, I am not sure how it would work out. This chap is mentally spot on, and has communicated clearly his wish to be killed, effectively, when he wants. So what would happen if he suddenly stopped being able to communicate? What then? For all we would know, he might of changed his mind, but couldnt tell anyone.

I think some form of "living will" might be more effective, signed, witnessed, legally watertight. Wouldnt help this chap though.

Hope he gets his wish though.

If someone wants to die, we need laws to support the wishes as such.

Made me sad this story,So young aswell

Cant imagine being in his state but your brain/mind is fully intact,Would be like a living hell and is making me feel sick thinking about it

I am of the opinion that if you are deemed to have mental capacity to make an informed choice after discussion with professional people ( psychologist, psychiatrist.....) then your wishes should be carried out.

Spot on mate. But what if you dont have the mental capacity, say a coma victim? At the moment, it seems the medical profession take the choice, DNR, not the families. They have to be consulted I guess, but cant suggest it. Seems wrong to me

It's different if you are in a situation such as a coma as then you could not be deemed to be of mental capacity and of having made the choice or decision on your own merits. Assisted suicide should only be performed where the person involved has made that decision themselves whilst fully compus mentas and in the company of approved proffesionals to witness the decision and coroborate the fact that the person at the time of making the decision was of full mind to do so.

Agreed. So the result would still be that people unable to make the decison themselves couldnt have someone else make it for them, other than the medical profession? In other words, family could not ask that someone is taken out of their misery?
