Tony Hibbert thread

Iam obviously going to upset a lot of people in this thread but hey that's what the forums for ( opinions )

I think one of David Moyes biggest criticism's is not replacing or offloading Tony Hibbert years ago , my take on him is as a defender you now need in 2011 10 main attributes to be affective as a defender an Hibbert has 2 , pace and the ability to slide tackle when needed , his positional play , awareness , distribution , heading ability , technique, disciplinary ( bookings ), and all round football brain is very poor IMHO , I would now like to see Seamus Coleman giving his chance there like Moyes said at the preseason tour , Tony is as honest as the days long and gives his all, but if we want to improve as a squad where going to need another Baines playing right sided fullback and for me Seamus needs a chance , it's also very difficult to say he's the most loyal to the club because he's never been anywhere else because again IMO he wouldn't get in any other premier league team as most managers know that now days your fullback's need to be competent on the ball and Tony's probably the worst I've seen in the top level in possession , that moment he had at the Bridge last week where he had two opportunity's to keep the ball in play and kicked it up in the air and couldn't control it when it dropped was embarrassing to the club , I think if Moyes left in the summer a new manager's first move would be offloading the likes of Hibbert and Osman because for me now in football there's no room for sentiment just because they support the club , we need better starting with the likes of Ross Barkley coming into the starting 11 playing behind the striker

The best part of that : "He looked up to me and Duncan Ferguson and Alan Stubbs because we were all Scousers. I know Duncan Ferguson is Scottish but deep down he's a Scouser – he's more Scouse than half the people I know around here."

Nah, according to some people round here you HAVE to be born in Liverpool to be a scouser.

Somebody needs to tell all the players to stop saying how good Barkley is in interviews FFS. In fact, why not go the other way ?

'He's shoite that Barkley' said Bilyaletdinov.

Bit harsh that, Xavi. He's not a great player but I think his forward play has come on in terms of delivery into the box, which was admittedly very poor. You say his positional play is very poor, but cast your mind back to that European game we had at home a couple of seasons back when he was drafted in as emergency centre half. He was all over the place mopping up after FBs and marshalling a very inexperienced defence. I think he's just happy to defer to other team mates.

I think Hibbo is a decent right back, don't see him that error prone or anything, and he's a good servant to the club, wouldn't mind him finishing his career with Everton.

I can't sell him on FF12.

I mean, I could technically do so, but I just don't have the heart to do it.

Neville can swivel though.

Maybe slightly Dave yeah and I respect your opinion especially , it's just iam one of these people who can't take to players who are poor in possession of the ball , I myself as a player used to thrive on keeping the ball whether it be real games or 5 a side hence my forum name who's my favourite player of all time , I just think in this day in age you need 2 good attacking fullbacks especially in Everton's case because we don't play with wingers who get chalk on their boots so too speak, I'd rather someone like Coleman giving his chance , as I said before it's only my opinion but I doubt he'd get a sniff at Spurs, L'pool, Villa or even the barcodes , every time he gets too much time to think when he's on the ball my hearts in my mouth ,

Yes is first time crossing has improved a bit this season, I still wouldn't have him anywear near my team if I was the manager,
but maybe it is a bit harsh , just how I feel about the man in question

Great squad player but you know you need to strengthen the position if he's your first choice.

I like the lad, but that's how it is. If Coleman learns how to defend then he'll replace him. If he doesn't then Coleman will be sold to Sunderland for 2.7m within in two calendar years.

It's the fact that he is so obviously first choice that's the worry. Three right backs and no competition.

Agreed mate, everyone was saying that Osman and Hibbert needed to be squad players two years ago, and now they're pretty much guaranteed starters. Tells it's own tale, with no disrespect intended. They're very good to have and I hope they stay at Everton.
