- Ha, OTT i know, but who cares.
- Yesterday i was at the launch event to help celebrate my latest project where i worked in conjuncture with Microsoft and more specifically with Will Lewis at Microsoft Translator. The result of this all sees Welsh Language released as an official language on all Microsoft products and those that use Bing Translator.
- Finally got to meet Will Lewis who i'd been communicating with for the past 8 months and he was a top bloke, despite being hit by an advertisement board during his speech. the lucky get also got a free ticket to Wales vs France last night in his first taste of Rugby. Ended the night with a posh 3 course meal at a fancy french place which i can't spell whilst being half cut.
- The launch event itself imo was a great success and the quality of translations received a great review and considering google has been training their engine for 10 years and ours has only been ran for 8 months, it is a testament to the hard work of my collegues that the comparable figures (not allowed to discuss in detail) of both read so well in our favour.
- Obviously i know this will not affect many on here, but i thought i would highlight it for our welsh contingent on here, especially those who work in a Bilingual organization. This will help improve speed of bilingual documentation as well as a hopeful advancement in the awareness of the welsh language and it's usage
- I also wanted to write it to big myself and show myself off as not the complete dumb-ass i probably seem on here, as i was entrusted to be the key member of such an important project within weeks of my first proper job whilst still on a graduate salary.

Microsoft translation system to help more use Welsh
The new translation system has been developed by Microsoft for the Welsh assembly![]()
A translation system aimed at helping more people communicate using the Welsh language has been launched.
It has been developed for the Welsh assembly by Microsoft, with tools and applications that will recognise and translate other languages into Welsh.
It works online, on mobile devices and through Microsoft programs like Word.
While it is not a 100% accurate translation service, it aims to help more people use Welsh.
Welsh assembly officials said the system would allow staff and assembly members to work in the language of their choice and would help it provide "exemplary" bilingual services.
It could also be used as a learning tool for those wanting to improve their Welsh, they said.
The new translation application works online in the Bing search engine, and in Microsoft office programs![]()
"This is a great day for the Welsh language," said the AM Rhodri Glyn Thomas, who is the assembly's commissioner responsible for the Welsh language.
"It is a great step forward in bilingual working that we have been able to help with the development of such a powerful translation system."
While the new software will not replace professional translators for official documents, assembly officials said they hoped it would help save time and some translation costs.
Microsoft Translator already offers services for a number of other languages including Urdu, Malay and Catalan, as well as more widely spoken languages such as Chinese, Spanish and Russian.
