EFC formed 1878 is my point, she may have been the lady that had the toffee shop on but couldnt possibly have been the toffee lady at the games

I know it's a bluekipper link (i have been saved since ). But the images are scans of the family tree documents which my grandma's cousin spent 30 years compiling (also Molly Bushell)...

This link has some decent info too - as you can see, they list the 'Toffy' coming into existence in 1759 - which fits with the other documentation we have in the family tree files.

I think we might be at cross-purposes...

Molly invented the Toffee - she was not the first person to chuck sweets at the crowd! The images are supposed to be likenesses of HER...

The name Everton was synonymous with the Toffee long before football was ever thought of in this country. In essence, the club picked it's nickname up from the association made to the sweet. I thought Evertonians knew their history??

ANYWAY, everyone knows it was ronnie Barker & Martin Dobson that invented them, dobbo boiled 'em up and Barker sold them in his shop, he picked him cos he was open all hours, he kept them on the shelf next to the fork handles.


Great claim to fame though, you coulda slimmed down for the pic mate.

Yes that was her shop on Browside, opposite Prince Rupert's Tower - there's a lovely story behind the Toffee, and unfortunately some 'myths' around it too. One of these days I'll write a proper article for the main site, hopefully people want to read about it.

To be honest mate, I only got my first one against Villa last weekend when I took my nephew to his first match and sat in the Family Enclosure. Emotional moment.
