Bolton Wanderers also suffered a similar tragedy, yet they feel the need to sing about Munich and Hillsborough to this day.
I'm not aware that Utd have ever used it in retaliation though ? I remember a kid knowing the words at junior school, long before the r/s started singing it ~~(and us btw, no denials here).

Agreed.

just out of interest, is it something that has ever been used against Rangers by Celtic ?

No, I would say that 99% of Celtic fans observe any tribute to the disaster but you can't account for a few boozed up lads at games who can't show respect. Not going to lie though been on supporters buses for long journeys and when everyone's full of it there is a few songs sung in the buses now and again but never been a song sung about in the stadium as far as I know.

2 years ago we played them at their own backyard (40th anniversary) and there was a big hype about the game, if we got beat league was all but gone but if we won we were about to mount a comeback. But there was also a lot of tension in the news, rags, radio phone ins etc about the minute silence and how it would go. People were saying it should be changed to an applause, but that is just pandering to the boo boys IMO. Anyway the silence went ahead as planned and was impeccably observed, except a few coughs (which somehow someone was certain they were 'Celtic coughs'. As laughable as that sounds its true. I mean it was like they were building us up for a grand fall with the silence and since it was observed the media decided to run with the Celtic coughs for a week in the back pages.

So even at the festive period and the support full of people drunk The silence was a success as it should've been no matter the circumstances.

A horrible thing to happen to any football fan

RIP. Didn't know about either of these before hand. Awful that the game went on at this one with the dead lining the side of the pitch. There was also one at the Luznhey (sp) Stadium in 82 which was apparently similar to the Ibrox one (wiki). Strange coincidence that both the Ibrox/Luzhney tragedies resulted in the same number of deaths, exactly double that of the tragedy at Boundary Park. Bit morbid I know....
