That sucks Shane. Which route you going to take back? I suggest taking I-40 across, at least you can see some Route 66 attractions, plus then you would have the opportunity to hit the awesome Route 66 diner in Albuquerque and the other spectacular scenery across Arizona and New Mexico.
Actually, you could pretty much follow the Route 66 route all the way, as doesn't it end in Illinois?

Even if you did it in one go, it would take about 37 hours to go from San Diego to Ohio. At least on a flight you don't have to drive!
