Titanfall

Ermm, the car models look a step back from Forza! I see nothing there to suggest that it will be better than the established GT/Forza series.

Of course, the proof is in the pudding, but on first impressions.....nah.

Iracing is on a completley different level to Forza and GT series which people believe are realistic purely because of marketing. Iracing is the number 1 motorsport simulation in the world, real drivers from Indycar, ALMS, NASCAR, BTCC, Grand AM, V8 Supercars and just about every major series in the world use it for training. Hamilton, Kovalinen, Montoya, Sutil are just a few of the big names who have raced on it before.

In terms of accuracy the models are untouchable, every car is laser scanned within 1mm accuracy of the real thing, the same goes for the tracks. Every single track is laser scanned and thus is identical to the real world version, even tree position on every track is within 1mm accurate in order to give the people driving it the same visual brake markers as in real life etc.

Its miles ahead of Forza and GT which are both mass market products aimed primarily at casual gamers who play with joypads. You won't find anyone playing with joypads on iracing, everyone uses wheels and pedals, everyone drives realistically. There is no AI, you have upto 64 car fields etc.

Its extremely expensive though (i've spent £1000+) due to the extreme levels the devs go to make everything as accurate as possible (laser scanning is very expensive). It's a hardcore product for true motorsport fans who want to simulate real life motorsport as accurately as possible (pit stops, fuel saving, cautions, blue flags, etc). Every month you get tons of disgruntled forza and gt players coming over to the service and wondering why they wasted the past few years on those games when they could have been playing this.

Graphically some of the older content is dated (its been around since 2007) but the content from the last 2-3 years looks considerably better than forza or GT (its a pc game after all).

Not that graphics should ever be a priority in a racing sim, physics and netcode are by far the most important and iracing nails both of these harder than forza or GT could ever dream of doing so.

Tbh it was probably a bit pointless of me posting a link to it to begin with as it really is a different market altogether. the iracing community is made up mostly of real life racers or people who were too broke to continue real life racing and turned to the next best and infinitely cheaper alternative.

If you're a motorsport fan then iracing and assetto corsa (when its fully released) are going to be the two top dogs in motorsport simulation for many years to come, not in terms of sales but in terms of realism and quality of product.

I don't even know where to start with your post but...yes, it was. All of the real-world tracks in GT4 were laser scanned, BTW.

There are different methods of laser scanning and the methods which are used in GT, Forza etc are nowhere near as accurate.

You only have to compare Forzas Bathurst to the one in Iracing, the elevation changes in Forza are not accurate for example and the track is wider than it should be, something real life v8 driver Shane Van Gisbergen pointed out (he has done hundred of laps there in real life).

Forza and GT also rely on third party laser scanning, they don't manually go and scan the tracks themselves and it's also only the actual tarmac data they use, it is nowhere near the level of detail found in iracing tracks where every bit of scenery is modelled perfectly.

Anyway this has gone off on a massive tangent lol

You're missing the point of both games... The tracks were still scanned, which you said they weren't...fidelity never came in to question. You're talking about a sim where guys are using three 42'+ screens on Eyefinity setups with $500+ video cards and $800+ racing wheels.

As you yourself said, it was a pointless post...you came to the party with your schlong out and tried to windmill everyone. Your racing handle is 'Topper', isn't it...

Sometimes a game can be good because it's complex enough to be deep, but yet accessible enough to pick up and just do a race or two then get on with your day.

Forza is perfect for this.

I never said Forza and GT are bad games, i've played both of them for years now and always check out the new ones. They do what they do very well.

In the case of Forza though they have been gimping the physics with each release since version 2, making it more and more accessible to boost sales.

lol wut

I posted a video and about 4 words in my first post, i only went deep when someone questioned what its got going for it. Dylans a motorsport fan so i figure he'd be interested to know more about the best motorsport sim out there.

My setup is 1 crappy monitor and £30 wheel btw

wind your neck in.

This is obviously true with Horizon, but you can make Forza 4 for example more realistic, just by default most of that stuff is turned off.

i play with no aids mate

not really talking about horizon as thats something completely different and wasn't even an attempt at realism as far as I'm aware ?

the thing is the majority of Forza and GT's users use joypads, so they have to gimp the physics in order to make it more manageable, I'm not talking about specific in game driving aids you get like TC, ABS etc... I'm talking about aids which work behind the scenes. It makes perfect sense to have it like this though but its the main reason why games such as these and the codemasters f1 series feel so lifeless through wheels compared to proper simulations like iracing, assetto corsa, rfactor 2 etc.

Anyway I'm probably boring you all to death so i'll also wind my neck in and get back on topic.

Titanfall - It's alright, basically cod with some robots and wall running. they need to ditch the AI though, really weird design choice imo.

Yeah, Horizon is by design more arcade feeling. I guess I haven't played Forza 1 and 2 too extensively, only owned 3, 4, and Horizon.

I kind of like the AI grunts running around in Titanfall. The ability to have an autopiloted titan running around is a little weirder, but I still kind of like it for it's uniqueness.

This may be an unfair judgement since of course the beta is only going to have a small slice of the final content. It's fun, I enjoy it, has just enough unique mechanics compared to other FPS's, but I don't think I could justify shelling out $50 for it.

Just watched a Titanfall video - do the weapons just not work on buildings or something? Incredibly off-putting to watch - fire a rocket, watch it smash into a wall with all the damage of a spud gun; all while being yet another COD clone with the twitchy gunplay with no recoil. Yawn.

People are easily pleased IMO.

Let's track back shal we...I made a throwaway comment in here about a game I was looking forward to, to which you jumped in neck first with "WATEVS LAD! DIZ DA BEZZIE RACE GAME FER ALL TIMEZ LAD, CHEK DA VIDZ". Dylan questioned it and you went full nerd mental, talking about lasers and cars with "untouchable models", you know, essentially turning it in to a proper PC vs. Mac flameout. I'll admit, it was entertaining. Anyhow, back to the matter at hand.

Why are you spending over £1000 on this superuberbossrealisticexpialidocious sim but using a £30 wheel? That's what communicates all of your l33t track physics to your hands...

Ya' trippin', dogg...you've embarrassed yourself here.

Seek help you argumentative oddball, i wasn't even talking to you in the post which has seemingly got you all upset. I was quoting Dylan who actually has an interest in motorsport.

"you've embarrassed yourself here"... like oh my gawd lol

Clearly they don't intend the gameplay to centre around who can bring down the most buildings. Destruction 2.0 was fine in BF3 and whilst it could be tactical, it wasn't the point of the game. Just play Sim City if you want to play with buildings.
