What was sharpy on about when he said the players looked tired during the Valencia game?

How on earth can they be tired its only middle of August if anything they should still not be quite match fit

The tired line was a kopite excuse when they started going ****e a few years back and I don't believe it for one second

But if sharpy is right and the players are tired then wtf are we doing in training that's knackering them

Depends what they're doing I suppose, but it's quite possible that they're doing a lot of physical work in training, which is leaving them not at peak fitness for matches.

I'm no expert on football training, but it wouldn't surprise me if they try and build fitness in pre-season, and then merely maintain it during the season.

Certainly in cycling you look to peak for certain events, so if you race during a big training block you won't be at your best. No point peaking during pre-season is there?

Don't really agree with that.

Probably more to do with their state of fitness back then. If one of us hadn't trained for weeks, and had been on the sauce for a little while, we would probably be a bit knackered after getting back into the swing of things too. I wouldn't read too much into it really.

Its unlikely to be training techniques either, Martinez is a bona fide physiotherapist. It was weeks ago and they're much more match-ready now.

Pre season is really about 2 things
1. Getting the players fit and ready to go for the start of the season
2. Developing and practicing formations & tactics

Given that they have just had a couple of months off, then played their 3rd big game in a week in reportedly very hot and humid conditions, I would expect that the players would get tired. I don't see it as a negative, just confirmation that we are working hard to get fitness levels up to where they need to be

They played 3 games inside a week in an unfamiliar climate with a lot of travelling thrown in. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Jet lag, intense humidity, Sharpy taking over from Moyes as our resident miserable Scottish prat.

Move along.
