Timmy Cahill to be the new Scholesy? *Warning this title contains exaggeration*

Player Valuation: £40m
So it would seen evident that the days of seeing our man Timmy scoring freely in the premier league are over. This is a given and probably needs no more comment on as a subject alone.

I just cant help but think however that this isnt the end full stop for our Cabaye Strangling, Ball-boy saving hero. Remember when the goals dried up for Scholes? He willingly adjusted his game to one more of intelligence, using his passing and dictation of play. Now please my fellow blues, hear me out.. I am NOT saying that Tim Cahill has the ability to do what Scholes does as he doesnt have half the natural footballing ability. But rather than the scrap heap, could our Timmy give us the steal along with Gibbo in midfield to allow Fellaini to continue to dictate games?

I know there is a massive fear about what Moyes's comments last week meant when he discussed the need this summer to 'trade' players. I think he was talking more of Anichebe & Rodwell. Anichebe will get us a few million quid because of his physique and the fact hes got more than a year left on his contract. He has surely now done a Vaughan and proven that he cannot get fit long enough to realise his true potential. Hes a typical 'Stoke' player (no offence intended).

The same I feel for Rodwell. There seemed to be an air of frustration with Moyes regarding Rodders ongoing hamstring problems when discussing it in the media. Almost both, 'Im p*ssed off hes not in my team'' but also 'im getting p*ssed off hes always injured'. This summer potentially could see him joining 'Arry at spurs. Hes the new Jermaine Jenas - everyone thought he was ace apart from those who actually saw him week in week out. I think also, like Saha has proven, sometimes players need a fresh start. JUST because hes english I could see us getting £8-10 million for him.

Moyes mentioned that with the Bily sale being £5 million ' it proves we dont need an awful lot money to be successful in the market'. I think again this shows hes not thinking one of the best players.

Those two sales above alone wouldntb) massively damage our squad and would give us the 'starter' money for a (early) summer shopping dash.

So, in a stab at true journalistic relevance, allow my post to come full circle. With Moyes looking for a plug in centre-midfield as our Nev surely cant take too many games in the engine room, I can see Cahill being employed in that sort of role. After all, Nev has proven it isnt purely footballing ability which can (moderately) succeed at centre-midfield, but also tenacity, resiliance and leadership - all of which are abilities Timmy possess in abundance.

Smiled at the thread title but saw the length of the text and bailed out.

Well done though on writing all those words though, you're great.

It should go like this:

Move Fellaini back to DMC
Let Barkley/Osman play in the AMC/SS role.

Sell Rodwell if you want like. Not arsed tbh. Wouldn't play Cahill as a DMC though, he doesn't have the capcity (too small, can't tackle, can't jump any more, can't man-mark, can't really pass very well).

I dont think Cahill can tackle or pass the ball well enough to play as a DM

I don't think Cahill could quite hack it there. Dropping back in games when we're desperate, yeah, but he's not a permanent solution.

Good post though, and I hope you're right about none of our biggest names leaving.

Yer I knew I was walking into that one

Neville shouldent be there either

Neville can actually play in centre midfield though, just not very well these days.

Cahill just can't play there (not including "his" attacking mid pos though).

He's good enough to drop back there if we have to, i think he's dropped deeper previous (possibly when Arteta was out injured) and done what adecent enough Prme player in a good team would do.

But as any kind of permanent thing? Nah. If he's not doing what he does best then he shouldn't be asked to do what he does worse.

Like the post. And I would also be ok with the sales mentioned (though I think Rodwell's stock may be lower than it has been in the recent past).

Love Cahill. For his, as you say, tenacity and leadership, but I think he's still better off spelling Fellaini from time to time right in behind Jelavic. Not sure he has the skills on the ball to hold possession like a CM should.

Got to sign Peinaar and another winger. Looks like neither Magaye nor Coleman really fit the bill there long-term. Would love Gibbo and Osman/Barkley central with Fellaini (subbed at times by Cahill) up with Jelavic.

I see Cahill now as a versatile impact sub.

Fellani back to cm alongside Gibson.

Pienaar and Donovan on the wings.

Ossie Barkley sharing the ACM role. Or Fellaini there, rodwell into cm

What we saw from Cahill last season was a player who struggled to impose himself when the creative spark around him was in short supply. Once we recovered that spark, with the addition of Pienaar & the load up front being taken by Jelavic, and the results improved so did Cahill's contribution. Hopefully those factors will be in place next season - otherwise Tim Cahill might be a liability. Of the 18 players in the squad to start 10 or more games the winning percentage for Cahill (and Sylvain) was amongst the lowest but he suffered by comparison through playing in the majority of the earlier part of the season.

he still has a role to play at the club i feel, he's a well respected member of the squad and he can still hassle and bother opponents if needed. on the bench and used sporadically he can still be useful.

See I dont understand why people want to get rid, I dont think we would get much money (if any) so whats the point? He still brings something to the squad and as this season has shown he isnt a definite starter anymore. Decent squad player I think now.
