I was half watching skysports news yesterday evening and they had Kevin Friend on, he was being Interviewed at the Stadium of Light with a newly promoted championship referee.

Anyway, the one thing that piqued my interest was when he said that this season they'll be diligent with the added time, just like we saw in the Qatar World Cup and like we're seeing in the current Women's World Cup.

It won't be an independent timekeeper stopping the clock as it is in Rugby League, but he was saying whenever the ball is 'dead' the on field officials will record the delay and ensure it's added on. He said 5:15pm finishes for 3pm kick offs wouldn't be completely out of the question.

I don't think it applies to the Premier League this upcoming season, but it will be interesting to see if it cuts back.on the fannying about.

Might be a right ballache for some people catching trains lol

Can't see Sky/TNT wanting longer games and losing ad revenue.
Which is why I suspect it will be limited to the EFL, for now.

As for broadcasters fretting about ad revenue, I would not be shocked if we start getting split screen ads before long.

We'd still watch it, mugs.

Didn't Dyche bring it up in his post-match interview though? Swear he did.

Good, the clock should stop for freekicks corners and goalkicks, it boils my piss the amount of time the ball isnt in play.

And it shouldnt be the referee controlling it neither.

Rolling around after a little clip on your ankle, stay down as long as you want you fanny the game will still have xxx amount of minutes left regardless.

Can’t wait to see an extra 20 minutes added on because a sky team needs a goal.

The sooner we get to a proper timed game the better.
Ball not in play, time stops simple.
Maybe not corners and throw ins, but subs, free kicks, goals, any injury. Stop the clock

Wouldn't actually mind a time restriction on throw ins and corners. Say 15 seconds for a throw in and 25 seconds for a corner.
Throw in has to also be the first person who picks the ball up. Non of this pick it up, fanny around, then pass onto someone else, to foul throw it in.

A other solution looking for a problem - why don't they just leave the game alone.

Edit; answers own question - longer games means more Ads to sell?

But it is a problem, and it's getting worse.

All the little delaying tactics add up, games are usually played for much less than an hour, will the club's accept 66% of our ticket cost?

I don't want them to be absolute tyrants about it, but as fans we should expect at least 75 minutes of action. I don't want to be waiting over 30 seconds for Brentford to take a throw in or Newcastle to take a goal kick.

It'll end up like gridiron, 1hr lasts 4hrs and if we're really unlucky we'll have ascending organ music every 5mins like ice hockey
