Jones and Henderson are challenging against lesser players when they were at Blackburn and Sunderland for a first team spot. Rodwell has been up against Arteta and Fellani and has also suffered from injuries and lack of form so i think its fair to say he has had a bad year. Henderson was also jeered by Sunderland fans last season due to his poor form and they wanted him dropped from the team but he has commanded a fee of 20 mill and your saying Rodwell who is higher rated throughout all the youth ranks wouldn't get near the same amount? English players are over priced and the fees are starting to become laughable when you get a foreign player for half the price who could do the same job. Of course there are better players out there for the fee we would want but you could say that about a number of players which have moved on recently, Carroll for instance, he isn't even worth half of the fee the RS paid for him, but its the way the market is and to think we would sell two of our most promsing players for the fee's you mentioned would be wrong.
Buying no first team players this summer isn't an option.
Moyes has to refresh the aging squad and strengthen our strikeforce. Failure to do this could have serious consequences : players may start to lose confidence in the club; Fellaini won't sign a new contract; and so on.
Plan A (so it seems to me) was to sell off Yakubu, Yobo and Vaughan for decent enough prices to give Moyes a transfer budget of £10m plus, while hopefully picking up a striker like Klose or Ba free or on a loan, leaving Moyes just enough leeway to pursue targets like N'Zogbia. This plan is now on its last legs.
So what's Plan B ? I've no inside information on this. But the obvious road to go down is to see who else we can sell without compromising the team too much. My hunch is that we could see Rodwell leave by the end of July.
A few weeks into the transfer market and you're already pronouncing "Plan A" dead.
Why not have a bit of faith and patience?
Selling Rodwell is a good idea, so long as you're happy with the message it gives to future Everton stars such as Barkley "if you're good enough to play for the team at such a young age and you have potential, you're good enough to be sold"
That is what player's agents are for - it was probably the first thing they've told to their respective clubs, if they want to have a chance for a longer cooperation.Plan A was rubbish: hope that Fenerbahce and Leicester dont realise we need cash in the club quickly to buy our players.
I believe that Fellaini is replaceable for £10m or so, anything extra we get on him is money toward another player, to increase the quality of our squad because as it stands the best we can manage is a repeat of last season with perhaps an extended cup run.
Selling Rodwell too, along with Yobo and Yakubu and one or two others would see Moyes have a good £30m+ to spend this summer. I'm not going to do the whole Football Manager thing, but with £30m+ i feel we could get 3 or 4 top young talented players. The way i see it to have any chance of really building a squad capable of challenging the top six, we need to sell our assets. If we don't make Europe next year, expect Baines to go as well, and if the long-awaited take over hasn't happened by then, thats how we'll get our funds to rebuild, by selling those assets.
SO many people want to sell Rodwell and Fellaini ????
Thats just retarded....WHY sell 2 top class players in arguably the 2 most important positions in the side ???
If selling it should be; Yobo / Yakubu /Mucha / Anichebe to build a nice fund.
The ageing players such as Arteta and Cahill -- to be replaced with younger models whilst they have resale value!!!
Selling top players or potentially top players under 26 = insanity.
