NIGEL MARTYN: Tim Howard is one of Premier League's best goalkeepers - Liverpool Echo.co.uk

How good is Tim? Well, he must be in the top four keepers in the Premier League.

The top four have a monopoly on quality, but our man is comfortably better than Manuel Almunia.

I often hear Petr Cech being described as the best in the world. But he is becoming more and more prone to making mistakes and I would argue that Liverpool’s Pepe Reina probably has better claims to that title than Chelsea’s keeper.

Tim deserves his place in the top bracket. He is a good organiser, kicks well, has terrific concentration and rarely makes mistakes.

I think it's good that we've got Howard.

My question is if he went down, would Nash or any of our others be reliable backups?

Strange position GK.

Jaaskalinen and Given are two very very good performers, made all the better because the sides they play in are so abysmal.

i'd never admit to fans of another team, but i think howard has earned us many a result we didn't deserve based on the rest of our team's performance

even when i've been watching games with some of my friends that support other clubs, there have been those moments where there jaws drop, and what's more i rarely see him bobble crosses or make any mistakes of that nature. he's both amazing and solid.

I'd say the only 'keeper consistently better then our Tim is Shay Given. Even then the only reason it shows is because Newcastle's defence is so (n) he is constantly called upon to show how good he is.

Personally I'll settle for the number 2 'keeper and the number 1 defence, rather than 1 and 20! (y)

(OK, maybe not the number I defence over the season but I'm struggling to remember when we last conceded a goal)

Howards a top notch keeper. He's one of the reasons we have finished in the top 6, 2 years running. a steal for 3 mill and just approaching his prime years as a keeper

And what? I dont rate Almunia and Howard isnt even close to being in the top 5

Howards one of the best, and it should be up there in Moyes' top 5 buys - along with Cahill, Arteta, Jagielka and Lescott.

You would do well to read my posts then as you clearly dont going by the above post, he should be on the bench long term but not at the moment

Hes been fantastic for the past year - id say that was quite long term. So why shouldnt he deserve his place over the next year or 2 years?

Anyway - unstoppable force meets immovable object this. Neither of us will change their opinion - so shall we just stop the Jagielka argument before it starts? :P(y)

Because he isnt good enough for us to move forward. The only reason i would play him now is because i prefer JL at full back and there is no-one to partner Yobo
