Three points for a win

According to Wikipedia, since three points for a win was introduced there have, on average, been 8.2% less draws per season and if you believe that you've drunk too much in the pub this afternoon

2 for a home win
3 for an away win
1 for a draw
nothing for a loss

would ut more of an emphasis on going away from home and trying to win

3 for a win, 0 for anything else. Draws become the same as loss. We'd be buggered right now like, but it'd open the league right up.

The fact is that since the three point win was introduced, international football has become much more negative and low scoring, while even domestic football has largely moved on from the goal gluts of the two point era.

There is no evidence at all to argue that the game is more attacking now.

Not sure that tells the whole story.

Surely the tactical improvement in the game over the years is what has led to superior defending and thus less goals being scored, rather than the number of points for a win ?

You don't ever really see wonder kid centre backs in the kids game because the defensive side of football has a lot more to do with teaching as you mature than the offensive side. As technology and the game has matured so has defending, making it harder to score.
