Tony, Tony, is that you??!!!

In all seriousness could you please try to keep this thread on track? Threads is one of the most affective films you are likely to see. I don't think you should be diverting this.
You diverted it by whinning about your inability to express your opinion, you big daft ****.

Looking back, why would, presumably, The Russians even bother.

All that stuff about Russians with snow on their boots just waiting to roll west over all and sundry all the way to Portugal

JFK called their bluff in 1963, Reagan saw them and raised them in the 80's and made them go 'all in ' to chase the none existant ' Starwars option '

The rest of it was just to justify the Budgets

Compelling bit of drama none the less

Saw it as a kid and it scared the bejesus out of me. It pretty much had the same effect on me when I watched it again a couple of years ago. It's amazing to think that everyone lived with that constant tension and fear in those days.

Posted this in another thread a couple of weeks ago. Terrified me as a kid, still stops me in my tracks now.
Ps; Why all the hate for this fufu person?

Remember watching this in school as part of lessons when it was released, so I was around 13/14; we were told to watch it to make us aware of what was going on in the World at the time!

Watched it as a 12 year old in 1985 - When bbc made T.V - not just safe bet reality / celeb does this and that rubbish..
...it terrified me....
They even made us watch it at secondary school (unthinkable nowadays)
Watching it now the obviously low production values devalue its stock in this C.G.I era, but still as chilling ,menacing and thoroughly shocking as 28 years ago...
And what ever happened to the main actress who was the teacher in Johnny Briggs as well ??

The brinksmanship was with other peoples lives. The plans to save the minority still exist and are probably strengthened.

It wasn't just about military strength, it was about economic strategies, which culminated in the funding of the mujahedeen in Afghanistan to destabilise the Soviet union and usher in the true capitalism that runs riot these days.

Those types of dramas don't get made anymore, A Very British Coup was another that was too close to the reality.

Got Threads on DVD some years ago and it still has the same impact now as then
