Thread about the in-laws

My daughter arrived with her boyfriend from Edinburgh by car nice to see them, but being an oldie glad to get back into my routine not a christmas lover, but it does fetch families together.......

I like my in-laws but surprise surprise, they do get on my nerves at times, usually due to their desire to spend lots and lots of time (they're both retirees) with us, either at our place or their own (they live in an adjacent town), as well as the expectable slate of cultural and political differences. But they're certainly better than I deserve and the thing I probably find most unsettling isn't really their fault: I live in the house that my mother-in-law grew up in so, through no fault of her own, I don't think I'll ever feel like this place is actually mine. It's like being half a tourist in my house. Alas.

My wife hasn't mentioned any ways in which my family have got on her nerves but surprise surprise, they all live on the opposite side of the North American continent from us. Alas.

I think I’d get on great with my father-in-law if I could understand him better. The wife is from Dominican Republic and the in-laws are both lovely but he doesn’t seem to bother enunciating anything so it all comes out in a stream of gibberish that even his kids struggle to understand sometimes so I’m lost 90% of the time.

they talk to the missus on the phone every day which for some reason has to be on speakerphone. My only complaint would be that if they miss her that much and want to see her then buy the flights to bring us out to the Caribbean twice a year. They can defo afford it :)
