Mine have just left them after staying here for two days. The feeling of relief is immense. They could be worse I suppose however I hate having to make an effort to keep people occupied.

Why can’t they just be rich and babysit. They don’t even babysit and I end up buying all the booze.

Thoughts on your in-laws? They just a nuisance or you all a big happy family?

Pains in the bum, Mothers in Law especially cause more trouble per pound...there are so many jokes and stories for a reason.
hence the saying
A son is a son till he takes a wife
A daughter is a daughter for all of her life...(women and their 'kin mothers)

My has basically disowned my fiancée because she spends too much time at work and doesn’t “pop round”

The same woman that refused to babysit when we were in our late teens, because we had “stupid jobs” (bookies and bar) which was the best we could do at the time.

Hasn’t worked a jot in 20 years and has always had an aversion to us doing.

Didn’t talk to anyone on Xmas day for about 2 hours because my Dad bought our son a guitar and that “overshadowed” what she bought him.

Can’t wait till she finds out she’s not coming the wedding.

No matter how close you are you need your space. We all get together for birthdays, xmas and new year usually about 18+ of us including the kids but as much as we love each other unless we've booked an activity (holiday, canoeing, laying concrete foundations, lol, etc) we all know 3 or 4 hours is enough and any over nighters book a hotel. The key is to be open about these things everyone feels the same and offer "out" any dissenters straightaway cos when the ale flows it's gonna end in fisticuffs anyway.

Good afternoon John.

Is that your ma?

I could write all night about the things I dislike about my father-in-law. He's addicted to gambling. All he cares about is watching sports, betting and playing slots on his phone. They don't have much money and he spends whatever they have on gambling. He claims he only places 50p bets but I've seen his betting slips with £20 on a 10/1 horse. He proudly tells everyone about his £10 wins but is in massive denial about his hundreds of pounds he loses. His family refuse to step in and stop him so I just totally ignore him. Last Christmas he was lucky enough to win £2500 on a slot game on his phone. He'd lost every single penny of it by new year despite having massive debts.
What's even worse is that for the last 30 years he's only ever worked 16-20hrs a week so he can get his council house paid for and maximise his income support. He's the kind of guy that thinks he's owed everything but works for nothing. Nothing is ever his fault, he can never admit when he's wrong and his levels of stupidity reach new lows.
If he wasn't my father-in-law he's the kind of person that would be my target for a Thanos style genocide.

sounds like a joy!

unfortunately one too many people like him ruin it for the rest, i heard a girl on the bus the other day saying she's just got a job in the bookies, "they wanted me to do 25 hours a week but i told them i can only do 16 or i wont get me rent paid" system is a joke

My father in law passed a few years back. I didn't really know him very well. My mother in law is a fairly peculiar woman who has no time or affection for her grandson and who causes massive drama on the rare occasions she visits. Always ends in tears usually when I pull her up on the racist and ignorant comments she deliberately drops in to try and cause trouble.

My in laws live in New Zealand so got a decent amount of distance from them ha ha. They're not bad in laws to be fair apart from being Kopites
