If he's booting someone on the floor he is now no longer defending himself. Indeed he himself is now an assailant.

Send him down ffs.

I disagree Frank, to ensure safety when being attacked, it may be necessary to repeatedly strike an attacker even when down.

The keeper had no weapons, but it's possible that the fan may have, as he's gone a long way already by entering the pitch and flying the first kick, and the Ajax arena is a bit mental (I got hit by a firework there once and the stewards are crap). If the fan was allowed back up it could end in disaster for the keeper.

I wouldn't take that chance. Glad the red card has been rescinded.

He was only kicking him. If it was me then i would have stamped on him, with studs that would deffo mean that he wouldnt get up. Ref played it wrong IMO, should have just got on. The stewards are the ones to blame (if you discount the fan) as they are there to stop this happening.

I could see Clattenberg doing the same though, and then sending the steward off and calling for the physios to help the fan. Think that Ajax will get a fine and the game will be replayed.

It will never come to anything but I'm pretty confident on this stuff because I use control and restraint (or MVA - management violence & aggression) in my job. From a legal point of view he has defended himself by putting him on the ground and affording himself the opportunity to escape from the situation. Once he starts kicking him on the floor this is no longer the case I'm afraid.

Watching it again, the criminal that attacked the keeper with his back turned knew damn well he was up to no good.
Esteban should have sparked him out then two footed him in the family jewels.
Got no time or sympathy for freaks that look to attack when someone isnt looking, similar to the [Poor language removed] in Italy that throw flares at players.
