A mate I haven't seen for years is Mr Mk II Escort, he builds them up to full rally spec, last 1 I saw for sale was £36,000, they are mint, basically brand spankers.

Ken Block is fun. Doesn't Chris Atkinson also beat this Escort as well (the Australian rally driver who started with SWRT)?

Sorry, different vid, here is the one I was talking about

I am glad some actually watched the vid. I grew marshalling rallies and watching the likes of Clark, Mikkola, Makinen etc and myself dabbling with Mexicos and RS2000s.

Back in those days Rallies were a true test involving driving through the day and night not like the fast sprints today where they have pace notes, use the same sections a few times in both directions.

Back then when you heard and seen the likes of Minis, Escorts, 240Z, Lancia Fulvia and Stratos you never forget.

Realise though that this was probably way before many on here got out of short pants so they would not know.

Robert, I am a massive, massive fan of real rallying. And to some extent even the watered down version that we have today.

The Group B cars starting with the Lancia 037 is what does it for me, I love those. My two faves being the Lancia Delta S4 and the Ford RS200. Both absolutley ridiculous cars!!!!

Here is Ari Vatanen (he is now a Euro MP)driving a Peugeot 405 T16 Evo setting the record up Pike peak in Colorado. This was only his second ever time up the mountain and he breaks the record. It shows just how fast the cars where.

In fact, in 1986 Henri Toivonen lapped Estoril circuit (used for the F1 Portugeuse GP) in a S4 and would have qualified 5th for the race with the time he set.

And the ended up banned as they were simply too fast and too dangerous. With all of the spectator deaths and finally the death of Toivonen FISA and the FIA banned them from the end of the season.

I can see Pikes Peak on a clear day from my house. My mate is a massive fan.Goes up there to watch the race.
