Could be a fun thread actually. Meant to post this earlier today...18 May, 1980. Didn't see this one with my own eyes...but saw a previous 'minor' eruption a day or two before. I was 9 years old. I remember the ash from it being like grey snow on our car.

Visited there about 20 years after the eruption. Still amazed to see how powerful the blast must have been. Trees were felled for miles and miles.

Climbed it in 2001...was beautiful...the last mile or so was incredibly difficult. The ash was like walking on the finest beach straight uphill at nearly 9000 feet.

The destruction of the eruption and landslide were still jaw-dropping.
