You horror, listened to much have you?

Not gonna lie that was a dual purpose pick to both wind up and speak actual truth. Maiden don't do anything for me personally
haha yeah I get it, metal isn't everyone's cup of tea. This new album is different though. All the songs are like 10mins and it is very music heavy and all the members get to show off their skills. It has been a musical highlight for me this year, have I said that before lol

Best Album - Mark Lanegan - Blues Funeral
Best Song - Mark Lanegan - Harborview Hospital
Guilty Pleasure - Nah.

Honestly can't believe I slept on Mark Lanegan's solo stuff so long. I liked Screaming Trees back in the day as well. Astonishing body of work.

Oh the metal part ain't the problem, it's just Im not mad on aging air raid siren vocals and 40 minute songs about sailors or something with not enough ideas to carry the run time.

But everyone to their own, you like what you like.

For example, I'd say My Heart Will Go On is a better song than anything Maiden have ever written but if I said that to your face you'd probably swing at me haha

No, I'm not a genre snob, my approach to music is if it's a good tune, it's a good tune, no matter the singer, it's just not my main source for listening.

I know they still play all the old stuff, legacy bands tend too, that's why i find it really refreshing they are still putting out new stuff.

You can get a history lesson off Maiden though haha

Just to get in on the Maiden talk that's peppered through this thread: the album they did before the latest one - The Book of Souls - is also outstanding. Funny how these last 2 records rank among their very best, IMHO.

August and Everything After is a great album.

Haven't listened to much in the way of new music this year, but Steven Wilson's The Future Bites is my favourite new album of 2021. I've also properly discovered Future Islands, and have enjoyed working my way back through their discography.
