Seeing as the 'What are you currently listening to' thread still seems pretty active - Thought it might be interesting to discuss the past year in music

Would be good to see what other posters have made of the year using the categories below - Here's my picks

Best Album: Spiritbox - Eternal Blue
Best Song: Torres - Don't Go Putting Wishes in my Head
Guilty Pleasure: BTS - Butter
Artist you previously ignored/were unaware of but came to love/appreciate: John Prine
Biggest surprise: Porter Robinson - Nurture or Aly & AJ - A Touch of the Beat......
Most overrated artist: Olivia Rodrigo
Most underrated artist: The World is a Beautiful Place and I Am No Longer Afraid to Die

Best album for me is Iron Maidens new one, it's absolutely amazing piece of work, other than that I like DMA'S.

I've not heard of most of the stuff you put lol
Most overrated artist is any rapper in the pop charts and mumble rap is a disgrace to the genre.
Guilty pleasure MAYDAY, more than a guilty pleasure really a little independent band from Miami mainly rap but they're very diverse.

Biggest surprise was Maiden again and finding Metallica have a fairly recent album out also which I haven't listened to yet.

Underrated artists are DMA'S for me

Went to see Rina a few weeks ago - incredible as expected

I loved Maiden when i was a teenager, the first three albums I still play regular. Sevength Son was the last one i bought, out of interest, this new one, do you think its the best they have done for a while then?
I'm similar to you - my Maiden love is basically the stretch from Number of the Beast to Seventh Son

I know that hardcore fans think the band are doing good stuff again (after the lows of the Blaze Bayley era)

Iron Maiden are probably my most overrated band of all time.

Friends who’ve seen them live say how good they are. I can never get into them.

I was like you hadn't heard them since seventh son really, the new stuff popped up on my timeline and it is just an incredible piece of work. They are a six piece now as all the major members are back in it, Bruce Dickinson and Adrian Smith left in the 90s and re-joined in 2000.

Can't really remember why I started listening to them again recently but glad I did. Bruce had tongue cancer in 2015 so for them to release an absolute behemoth of an album is remarkable.

I can't say 100% if it's their best work as like you I stopped but I think it is really brilliant.
