The stoke game will prove once for all that Wenger lacks tactical knowledge

I expect him not to adjust the only strength Stoke has and we will concede 2 goals. i can see him not using his defense in a way that can deal with stoke in the air like playing Vermaelen-Koscielny-Mertesacker-Djourou.
Instead i predict he will play with Kos and Vermaelen in the middle with Gibbs and Jenkinson in the middle. If this happens and we get dominated in the air. It will prove once for all why Wenger is clueless tactically and that its whats keeping him from being a great manager. he's too predictable and is not a flexible manager

AW works by getting his team to believe that if they play to their strengths they cannot be beaten. It is partly a psychological thing. Guardiola was similar, but with more resources.
Whereas the tinkering manager is focussed on the opposition and more pragmatic, players take confidence from his ability to figure out the opposition. Mourinho is the current exemplar of this.
The philosophies are difficult to combine, Fergie can do it but he has other things going for him like signing players from rivals and being an intimidating legend. And he still cocks it up like at City last year.

I said a few days ago I would pick that defence Gooney's gone for. We need height against Stoke, there's no getting away from it. If Alex's Ferguson was the Arsenal manager he'd pick that defence.

Yes but with no full backs we will keep losing the ball and thus be both more likely to concede and less likely to score.
They will dominate us in the air regardless, it is about organisation not personnel. Come on people!

I'd pick Verm and Kos as the full backs just for this game. I would say they are better on the ball then Gibbs and Jenkinson.
I see no need at all to play full backs in this game.

Kos and Verm are good on the ball in the centre! They are actually pretty limited in terms of providing an option down the wing and creating space for our attackers. Whereas Gibbs and Jenks are naturals at doing so. They need to improve at things like covering for CBs but how will they do that if they don't play games like this? Don't forget whose cover tackle saved our season either...

Willy, Jenkinson and Gibbs add nothing going foward in my opinion, and like you said they ain't the best at covering our CB's. Winning the 2nd ball will be important and with natural CB's they are more likely to 'over cover' then naive full backs.

Mertesacker.
That said, Crouch, being right footed will end up in Verms zone. So having Meatlocker marking him on set plays may not necessarily be the best option.
