having 2 or 3 substitutes instead of the ridiculous 7 would help. chelsea, man city etc can afford to have a bench full of internationals who probably wouldnt be there if the chance of a game was more limited.

Spot on. For the top 4 that's 28 class players unavailable to competitors and very often better than most other first teams. Injuries during games or players having an off day is a great leveller. Going back to a couple of subs would open up the game.
