The Wire vs Breaking Bad vs Game of Thrones vs Boardwalk Empire

The Wire for me, followed by Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones and then Boardwalk Empire. Id mention the Sopranos as well but feel it was often let down by hammy acting performances from some supporting actors although the main cast were fantastic.

The Wire is just so raw and gritty. All substance, no style.

Hard to compare The Wire against GoT as they are a totally different genre. Both are superb. The Wire had great acting and was utterly ruthless in its storyline. The same could be said for GoT although that is benefots from a far bigger budget. I love both.

Not got into Breaking Bad - I'm waiting to find the first series so I can go from scratch

The Sopranos is the best show ever. Closely followed by The Wire.

The others you mention are all fantastic but I would take Twin Peaks, The West Wing and The Walking Dead over any of them.
