The Window - were we undone today by a Psychology thing??

Player Valuation: £20m
We the general Everton supporting punter have been through our usual roller coaster range of emotions as the transfer window came and went.

Lots of angst that we may lose our better players to the big money teams.

Lots of hope that we can shift some of our deadwood/underacheivers.

Complete uncertainty if there will be cash for new blood.

Lots of hope that we can get some new blood in.

Hours on this forum analysing all kinds of sources of info and trying to make sense of vastly differing viewpoints and opinions. People behaving quite strangely in some instances, some getting a little carried away, over emotional, losing the plot completely, becoming abusive, veiled threats negative rep etc etc etc.......strange how it effects some!!!!!!

So what:-

Generally we have had a good start. We have had a positive Transfer window by our usual standards - and at 3 o'clock this afternoon we were all feeling pretty good.

But the mind is a funny thing - the Psychological effect of this period has got to be vastly different for the players also.

Those who may be in the frame for the big money call - regardless if they really want it or not.

Those whose position is that of the new lad coming in - just because we think the competition is good - they possibly will not - they have to deal with a new threat - initially plays on the mind I would have thought. Could have the effect of knocking the individual intially before they get that lift or realise they have to step up to the plate.

I was tired this morning having been glued to this all night last night - couldnt tear myself away from it (even when the site crashed) - how many of the players spent edgy uncertain restless nights last night - analysing the calls that either came or did'nt, wondering what Moyes was upto down Londinium way, wondering how its going to effect them, what does it mean for their (and their families) future.

Maybe that was what effected our play and players today - the mind is a funny old thing and its an easy excuse to say they are pro's and should be able to deal with it.

Today was just a bad day at the office - in my opinion for all of them - could just be the end of the window effect.

Couple of weeks now to sort our stuff out - get our heads straight -and then teach the Geordies a lesson or two.

When Gibbo went off we should have brought mirrales on,on the right moved felli back
and moved Naismith behind Jelavic.

I could usually try to get on board with this theory - at least a bit anyway - but I can't for two reasons. Firstly, the opposition had exactly the same transfer window and fixture, as did every side that played today, so there's no reason for it to negative affect us more than them. Secondly, it was abundantly clear that no player was leaving Everton - so much so that Steve Round came out in the press and said so 48 hours prior. There's no way he would have done so if there was even an outside chance of a player leaving.

So, no. There was a psychological problem perhaps, but it's just the same psychology that Everton sides under Moyes have had for a decade - there's no consistency.

We lost today due to the same old David Moyes. Awful sub in the first half caused us.

The window has nothing to do with pumping balls from either flank at a decent keeper (Foster) and his two 6 foot 3 inch CB sentrys (Olsson & McAuley) and expecting Jela to flourish. It reminded me today of Stoke at Goodison last season, Vellios expected to out fight Shawcross and Huth all on his lonesome.

It is about balance, science vs battle. Being able to outplay the nice to look at sides is great, but it means being fodder for the likes of Stoke, West ham, and todays kick everything bullies - Brom.

This is what should of happened I agree. Heinsight is a wonderfull thing tho... Neville taking all the blame as usual but today has to be a lesson that Neville ossie together in cm is to poor. You can getaway with 1 next to Gibson or Fellaini but NOT both.

Tbf it didn't help that EVERY other player played poor too. Don't think I've eve seen pienaar and baines play so poorly.

Credit to west brom who got there tactics right. Are a good side at hom and everything fell for them today.

WBA pressed us for 90 min and didn't get tired. Man Utd and Villa gave us all the space in the world. We weren't used or ready for the physical play of WBA.

West Brom were simply the stronger better team yesterday. We had a good start 6pts from 9 i would have taken we won't win every game. As someone said though it's consistency and yet again we come up against a team the stature of WBA and we don't turn up. Do we think these games are below us these days and are entitled to 3pts without getting off the coach.

Judge after 10 games not 3 the manager himself gave you this yard stick to beat him with if we aren't performing a 3rd into the season.

If we were undone by anything, it will be that Steve Round probably took most of the training sessions this week while Moyes was tirelessly working to bring in players. Keeping the same routine in a winning dressing room is key, and although Round said he was going about training the same way that Moyes would, he just doesn't strike me like a hard task master in the way that Moyes does. It must have also got into the minds of the players that the signings were more important than the game on Saturday as Moyes was away schmoosing all the agents he could get into bed with. I think this disruption to normal preparations has part responsibility for the fact we were a bit lacklustre and am surprised nobody has mentioned it.
