The ship-launched threat, the so-called "Scud in a bucket" scenario, illustrates a much more immediate threat to the United States and its allies than an ICBM fired against the United States by Iran and North Korea. The range of both Shahab and Taepo-Dong missiles is more than adequate to use against the United States or other countries in such a configuration.

This is the current scenario, Iran or North Korea without ICBMs may attempt to attack the US with ship based missles they have.

So the "Scud in a bucket" has the Yanks frightened to death, hence why systems like this L-A-S-E-R are being developed....

as an apprentice i worked in the development workshop at an ordnance factory, i was making these 'parts' and the top guy from the r&d came down to show me what fitted on the front of it, and it was the guidance system for the laser guided bombs. it wasn't long after that we were watching the raf sending 1000lb bombs down airvents.
i went to a test site with the same guy, on salisbury plain, he had me and the other lad out on the lash every single night, a great week.
