The UK and USA relationship......

Who if it weren't for them we'd all now be speaking German!

Like any huge complicated country the US has its issues and problems. Almost too many to mention but for me I buy into the idea that it is a genuinely classless society where any man or woman can rise up and be something. Britain, like most European and Asian countries is still hamstrung by a hierarchical society.

any country where political donors back both candidates to ensure a productive outcome cannot be considered a classless society. Success is determined by the wealth available to achieve it. Similar happens here but in a more stiff upper lip, old school tie network way.

And it's the absence of that in the US that I think sets it apart. At least wealth and achievement often go hand in hand but in this country the top tier in many professional disciplines is seemingly reserved for the upper classes.

dont think its classless in the states dell, name me one president of the usa ever who wasnt from or backed by the richest say 15% of that countries elite , as for the germans, well you could say the russians and a few other countries had a say in that, only diffrence being they didnt make a profit out of helping us not long paid back, as a price for fighting the nazis, the average yank and brit are pretty decent but the people at top of both countrys leave a lot to be desired

But it only sets it apart in an openly capitalistic manner. Corporate America doesn't care who is the figurehead as long as that figurehead does as it is told and repays their investment in the 'elected' positions, from civic to the capitol.
I see your point in allowing access to others, but that isn't on reward foundation, it's on fashion, perception and appeal. the outcome is the same.
Over here, the hereditary mentality is beyond archaic and rests upon the belief that power is retained because my ancestor had a bigger stick than yours. Not earned, warranted or justified, just, 'is'. Neither of them suit the majority or reflect any consensus whatsoever. The Syrian situation is testament to that.
