Aftershocks are consistant, about 10-20 a day around 2-4 on the richter scale. Liquifaction was immense all through the suberbs, flooding everywhere, but thousands of volenteers cleaning up the silt which has deposited everywhere.
The government are confident of rebuilding in the same place. The problem is that it is election year, so they're not going to risk losing votes by upsetting people and moving their city, that's my theory on it. They really should moved down to Timaru and base everything from there.
70,000 people have left the city in the last two weeks (out of 400,000) and they don't know how many will return. I think they'll be more earthquakes and the same **** will happen unless stricter building requirements are put in place.
