Yeah it does make you look at it in different era’s in a way, like ball in the 80’s, ferguson in 90’s and arteta/cahill in 2000 ) tho cahill.was more acceptable cos age and had plenty warning he was on way! and cahill, like ferguson still love the club/family, as did bally (Rip legend) as for arteta he did seem to quickly fall into that dirty gunners camp, even tho wenger never really seemed to respect the lad while he had his little fabregas running round for him!! as for rooney, yeah did love the lad, absolute different class, but he was always on his way!! (as for ths shocking player of these era’s, well mr kroldrup has to be up there, still shocks me now!!

Duncan for me. Didn't cry or anything, but totally shellshocked. Worse when I found out that Smith didn't even know it was going down.

Alan Ball to Arsenal without a doubt. I started watching the Blues in 1962 and Bally was the most complete player I have seen in a blue jersey. Skill, vision, goals, tackling, passing and toughness allied with a fierce passion for the club and the game.

For any blue of my age this was a heart breaking transfer.

Has to be Alan Ball.
Still brings a tear to my eye just thinking about it.
Obviously he voting reflects nothing but the age range of the voters, but for anyone who saw him play there can be no other answer.

The big regret was Alan Ball. Even now it remains a headscratcher.

Before even Bally was Collins to Leeds. Other biggies were Lineker and one lad I liked a lot, Stuart mcCall.

mm.. No one mentioned Martin Keown?
Quite a waste... sold for oni £2m.. went on to establish himself in Arsenal and England... a decade at least.
Did he ask for a transfer in the 1st place?
