Yes I know you can have brilliant acts that didn't shift as many copies as el generic artist that churns out half the quality songs that all go to number one. However in this case I would argue that they are ripe for comparison as broadly they cover the same period and are part of the same genre. There is no reason why someone who bought Definitely Maybe shouldn't have bought or at least been interested in The Second Coming. So in terms of greatness/popularity I believe the numbers count.
