I absolutely love 'em, but The Stone Roses don't have the body of work to rank among the all time greats.

That first album is among my top 3 though. From 88-90 they were pretty much as close to the perfect band as it gets. Shame they never got near it again.

I'd name Joy Division and Happy Mondays, and probably the Buzzcocks ahead of them just from Manchester. Sorry for leaving out The Smiths, but I can't listen to Morrissey for long without wanting to hurl my hifi out of the window.
