@SadSackSuperTed I'm not religious - but I've read a bit:

Luke 15:7 -
I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

I was from a family of reds - on both sides - and was forced to wear their gear and rucksacks etc in the early 80's.
I remember never feeling comfortable in that gear, and how I was being forced to support them, and just never got excited when they won.

Everton won the cup in 84 when I was 6 - I celebrated like mad at the time. It felt right and natural. I knew then that I had been chosen.
I spent the next 12 months getting to know everything about Everton.
We won the ECWC in 85 and my nan danced me round the living room in celebration for what felt like hours. I've never enjoyed celebrating as much as I did that evening. She took me to Lime street to see them coming home with the cup.

As both sides were pretty successful over the next 4 years then I had no problem with the family, but that all changed when Wayne Clarke scored that winner in 1988 - I was 10. I was celebrating an Everton win with my dad & uncles (all reds) to be met by verbal abuse how I was not supporting the city by stopping them beating Leeds' unbeaten record. The disgust towards me and anger in their faces when they were shouting me down scared me. My 10 year old vocabulary and respect for my elders meant I couldn't really respond effectively to how they reacted. This developed my now overbearing, strong hatred towards them. This has grown year on year with all the self entitled balls they spout 24/7.

So I would say I never actually supported them as I cant ever remember them wanting to win or do well, but I was pushed down that route during my very early years.
