The sad uncreative state of mainstream dance music

There is using a formula and them there is this, it's ridiculous how lazy he is. Proper bottom of the barrel dregs of electronic music. Funniest thing is that since "EDM" (groan) blew up In the US yanks think this is the freshest most original [Poor language removed] ever.

Irony there that they gave us so much from Detroit and Chicago in the 80s, nothing, imho, has passed the work of Atkins, May, saunderson etc, still

It's supposed to grow and inspire

Has it always been called EDM or is that a new thing?

In the mid 90s there was a sub genre used by the more reputable vinyl stockists of IDM, intelligent dance music, that took in the likes of Autechre, B12, Black Dog etc, someone just messed with it.... example of what it should have been

As with pretty much all genres, there's great stuff out there if you look for it. Don't listen to the charts or the music channels, just keep your ear to the ground by following Pitchfork, DiS, and various other accounts on twitter and you'll find a wealth of amazing music out there.

Heck, even just having a scan through the MMP shortlist has thrown up a handful of great artists I wasn't aware of.

For the record i love electronic music, i just can't stand lowest common denominator stuff like this, it's one giant rinsed out cliche from start to finish.

Looking forward to the new Aphex Twin album for sure and there is tons of great electronic music out there, but the stuff which is the face of 'EDM' is mind bogglingly horrendous to my ears.

If you don't like the music don't listen to it ffs

I don't listen to it but its pretty hard to never be exposed to this stuff, its on tv/adverts/radio all the time.

Also surely we should apply this logic to all things we don't like ? meaning if we don't like liverpool then ignore them... but instead we end up with 2000 page threads about them. People like to rant about things they think are [Poor language removed], its human nature.

Liverpool play in the same league and are our local rivals so of course we are going to talk about them

Never understood people getting annoyed by certain types of music, Just don't listen to it, Struggling to remember the last time I heard a Martin Garrix track on the TV/Advert

So you've never had a rant about another team before ? cmon man, people rant about stuff which does their head in... everyone does it.

This applies to so many "big room edm artists"

Watched half of this the other day, had to stop just before the first drop. Pretty sure he just discovered Garrix' next tune! Seriously though, I am pretty disappointed as I loved Animals. I did feel that the next one was very similar however, and luckily I wasn't even aware of the other two!

An American thing.

Tbf I have no idea what it's supposed to be! Surely all these songs already fall into a genre/subgenre?

The new 'house' music scene in the UK is worse that the bad dubstep one a few years ago.

Not sure can get any worse than this

Was thinking about posting about this earlier as it happens. I have actually been thinking the worst, that there is so much good dance music out there and especially in the charts atm; Lilly Wood & Robin Schulz and Duke Dumont are 1 & 2 in the Official Top 40, Sam Smith, Mr Probz, Clean Bandit, Sub Focus, London Grammar, Chris Malinchak, Storm Queen. Then I started worrying that maybe as I get old my taste has turned to sh*t... :o

This is better than any of this dance music crap

Tbf, this is better than everything, so...
