I like the cut of Harry's jib. Some of his anticz have been brilliant. Hopefully him and his army chums stage a military coup, what a Head of State he would be.

My honest opinion.... This country needs the monarchy, we as a country can be dismissive and off hand about them but they are part of the make up of great Britain....the draw to overseas business and commerce.... People the world over envy what we have..... They may not do anything for you personally but as a nation, what they do for us collectively is immeasurable. We take that away....we're basically an island floating off mainland Europe.

It's what Monarchy stands for that is the problem, the history of how our current monarchy reigns is one of violence, civil wars and serfdom which is where the term peasants come from, it was essentially a less harsh form of slavery.

there are people who don't even know what the Magna Carta is, I imagine people who know little of British history are more likely to support monarchy and thats from when having debates on it in the past and asking them.

Believing someone is of greater importance because they came out of a royal vagina and that they should be given millions to go around showing people how great they are and that it's an honour to have them in our presence is a regressive ideology.

you say people of the world envy what we have. They have had it, 1/3 of the worlds population had it and despise it so much so they fought wars not to have it, Gandhi proper loved it and the USA wrote a constitution to say how much they want british monarchy to rule them. For every person that envies it there are far more that hate it or the "empire" would still exist.

You hear a lot of rumours that the royals are inbred and I've heard a few times the queen is a reptile. If you look at the whole family they breed with each other and keep everything to themselves. They are probably the most corrupt family on this planet and if you upset them then you will never been seen again. The monarch rules the country and there's only one person in this country who can get away with murder and its the queen herself

What with the king of Spain abdicating recently and also Queen Beatrix of Netherlands abdicating, anyone dose think our Queen might do the same shortly? Would Charles take it and would the public be happy with Charles as King after the furores that blew up with regards Diana and Camilla.

I personally think when she abdicates it may go straight go William. Now a family man, with the loving wife and son. Could be bringing the royal families back into fashion so to speak with a new generation of Kings and Queens across the world. Interesting times ahead.

In modern terms what does the monarchy stand for? Pomp, circumstance and an excuse for Britain to show off every now and again. Violent kings and queens and political struggle have been present in nearly every country in the world so citing historical opression seems a bit daft.
Nepotism us also not exactly exclusive to royals. It justhappens quite aapparently in the form of succession. The Royal family has no actual power and nobody operates under its influence. Its a nuetered concept which is upheld in the name of tradition.
Also its a bit much for you to assume that because people dont resent the royals they must not know any history. Just because they dont agree with you doesnt make them idiots. Dont make the other side out to be dumb.

One of the things that really annoy me, we aren't the only nation to have garnered an Empire it just so happens ours was the most recent.

I wonder what the princes and princesses of Germany get up to these days? They still all have their Royal titles but they must have had to find actual jobs like everybody else.
