File next to "Scrapheap Challenge"

Mixed feeling about it - the clearly formulaic made-for-TV rules stifled any real innovation, but not a bad way to kill an hour. Jonathan Pearce OTT commentary was just a little absurd, however.

I used to love Scrapheap Challenge.

Watched all of them, the first series with Jeremy Clarkson and Phillipa Forrester was the best, as he used to subtley rip the pish out of the geekier / more serious contestants.

Roadblock won the first series on a judges decision after a 6-way battle royal, but it had just flipped everyone without a Srimech all the way through. Never acknowledged wedge robots after that.

The second series was boss because of the final, Panic Attack vs Cassius. Cassius was the red hot favourite because it was contolled by Rex Garrad, a highly experienced roboteer who had made the first series final with Recyclops. Plus he was the guy who actually came up with the Srimech idea.

Panic Attack were a lot less experienced and they'd not particularly set the world alight before then. On the night of the final though, they beat Cassius hands down to claim the title against all odds.

The king geek was deffo George Francis from Ipswich, a genius who got to the final in series 1, and won back to back titles (series 3 and 4) with Chaos 2 (another wedge). You probably remember him as the ginger bloke with a funny voice - I bet he had a great time at school!

I remember some RAF lot entered a robot, think it was called Typhoon.

Anyway, it won. Every time. It span round with blades like a toddler with ADHD given caffine.

It even broke the arena.

G'wed Chaos 2, twice the champion - Robot Wars glory hunter?

I remember I had loads of the toys when I was young, Shunt, Sir Killalot, Razer, epic.

Haha yeah, I remembered he was creepy but couldn't put my finger on why.

Firestorm was one of my favourites too.

I also loved how little f***s the Nemesis team gave about their robot getting set on fire every match.

Ahh yeah, Nemesis (later renamed Diotior) the token Irish team - they were in the very first epsiode and made it to the semi final against Roadblock. Sergeant Bash just roasted Nemesis, and Roadblock didn't have to do pheck all!

Serves them right for having their nan's curtains as body armor!

Also, remember Plunderbird? The team had a military gimmick and they'd do a lot of smack talk before battles.... only to invariably lose in humiliating fashion every time!
