The return of standing terraces

From what I heard on the radio this morning, it seems the proposal would see barriers on every row with foldable seats attached so there would be the option. Seats 'have' to be used for all UEFA competitions.
Personally years ago I loved standing, but the sands of time have marched on and aching knees now mean it's a seat every time for me... and that means fewer away games as most travelling fans - irrespective of team - seem to stand, presumably just to be a nuisance to the home team stewarding.

I don't want to stand, but standing areas in Rugby matches (where they still exist) are very popular......

There definately needs to be a choice in the matter so that some can stand and some can still sit

There is the issue of what you do with the people who have season tickets who don't want to stand of course. Maybe ask who is prepared to stand and get them to swap with the people who want to sit?

it'll never get back to the times of the fluid swaying of the old Gladwys days, and I do miss that

but it's obvious that clubs can implement safe standing areas for supporters, it's just if the clubs choose to or not

Well i believe Kenwright, was staunchly against it, to the point of not even discussing it, which given what happened with Hillsborough, and our subsequent tragedy for the City, is understandable, but it's 25 years on now. Look at what technology was like in 1989 for example, PC's, Mobile Phones which are the size of your palm? Who would have thought, and in a world where health and safety has gone mad, there wouldn't be any concerns about it being 'safe' in my honest opinion, should the crowd surge forward, they'd be surging into a pole, and the rest of the crowd behind them would be separated by... their own individual pole barrier.

I just think it's a case of British teams maintaining some stubborness to be unique, but seriously, i think the game as a whole would benefit from it.

Again, from what I heard on Radio 4 this morning I don't think the proposal to re-introduce standing areas would have that big an effect in increasing attendance capacities. So, if the number of people who can get into the ground is not increased, then clubs would be highly unlikely to reduce ticket prices for standing sections... so why give up your seat for no reduction in the price paid?

Why would the clubs invest a fortune getting the terracing installed then lower all the prices for the fans, it just wouldnt happen in these money obsessed times.

Actually I think I would love to be an opposing player taking a penalty. Just like if I could have one impossible wish in life it would be to score for Everton in front of the Kop.

Can you imagine the high from that?

Ps back on topic, no to standing from me.

This, I still dream about scoring, dropping my kecks, and windmilling right in front of them.

Standing terraces will come back. someone will fall over in a goal / limbs / scenes scenario and sprain their ankle, back to all seater.

media / social media go mental over everything these days, everyone has something to say ffs...

I've had a close look at the sample section installed by Bristol City. I was very impressed with their simplicity. There isn't the option to have a mix of seating and standing in the same area, so the seats in each block are either locked up or down by the club prior to the game, leaving complete standing only or seating only sections. As most fans at away games seem to stand these days, I would think rail seating is the way forward in certain areas of the ground.

Might just be my ageing eyes but every time I see them the Kop seems to be standing

They stand at all of their away games too so their away contingent can't be dead against it. There's no way they were sitting down during the last ten minutes of crystanbul or even the home game against man city for that matter

Yeah I agree, a proportion of their fans would probably be for it, I just don't think the club would officially get behind it, doubt they would be the only ones to be fair.
