The return of standing terraces

What about those that can't stand for long periods?

Ahh just saw it, they have the ability to sit and stand, very clever!

At Imtech (home of Hamburger SV), the standing section is kind of terraced to provide a place to temporarily sit at halftime and such.

Should bring it back. Really makes for an enjoyable experience and more lively supporter section.

...see this is back in the news with the Lib Dems promising to have it as part of their election manifesto. I'm not sure you can believe anything the Lib Dems say they are committed to, or the likelihood of them being in a position to introduce, but regardless I can't see this being a vote catcher when there are more politically important issues they should be commenting on. My own view is that I think it would be step backwards and I would personally never want to stand and watch a footy match.

The best thing in my opinion would be to have designated standing sections and then designated seated sections, so you can choose whether to sit or stand

.....not sure how much folk on here remember the old terraces, but even as a youngster I always preferred to sit and watch the game. I dare say modern terraces wouldn't have the crushes and be as uncomfortable as of old but I think in a city that felt the impact of Hillsborough our 2 clubs will be very reluctant to change.

Firstly, I don't think it will be old school terracing but more like what they have in Germany

Secondly, Hilsborough wasn't caused by standing, it was caused by poor stadium facilities and equally poor policing and stewarding

If it's done properly, it can be a safe and cheaper option for going to the match, which I can only see as a good thing. Some people who've had to stop going might be able to go again.

.....absolutely, Mikey. They are talking about fold away seats, so I'm sure you're right but it still wouldn't be for me. Your 2nd point is equally accurate, but the Hillsborough Group have come out this morning to say they are very much against the proposal. Politically it might be difficult for either of the clubs in this city to change even if the option becomes available.

I've been in the terracing in Germany, it's a great way to watch the game
