The price of football..

Wouldn't mind seeing a variation in tickets so the people who could afford to pay more, did pay more. We could have £10-£15 tickets for about 2-3,000 seats, £20-25 for 10,000 seats, £30-25 for 5,000 seats, anywhere up to £70-80 for some seats.

Socialism in ticket prices - I like this.

Albion Rovers tried this. Sort of. They asked folk to pay what they could/wanted to. A few jokers obviously took the rise, but their gate has increased loads, and away supporters actually pay more, as a block. They get more away supporters, so more cash, I mean.

Just out of curiosity, are secondary ticket markets (e.g. Stubhub) popular in the UK?
I sit in lower Gladys now as we have been moved from family enclosure as my kids now 18 after sitting in same seats for seven years
But it's still only£1180 for me and my two lads for all of us more or less behind the goal in the Gladys I can't argue with that. It's 19 boss days out with my lads win or lose its fine by me

  • 1 in 5 (17%) of our 27,500 season ticket holders pay less than £10 per game representing 1 in 8 (13%) of the paying Goodison attendance.
  • 9 out of 10 of our season ticket holders buy early and benefit from an average discount of £85. The highest price this overwhelming majority of fans pay for their season ticket is £599 (compared to the BBC’s reported highest price season ticket of £719).
  • Only 500 supporters (1.3% of the average gate) paid late and paid the reported £719 after the early-bird window closed.
  • 60% of the gate for Saturday’s game against Aston Villa will be paying £30 or less.
  • Only 6% of fans at Goodison Park, across the entire season, pay more than £40 per seat; and
  • Over the past five years, the amount of money we take per seat – all games and all seats – has reduced by 15% when compared to the rate of inflation.

He's being disingenuous there and he knows it. Trying to gain some moral high ground on the rate of exploitation when everyone knows the criminally higher than inflation rises that he and every other club CEO have exacted.

....I suppose its also a case of supply & demand. Our club lower prices and offer incentives for certain games because they know they will sell more tickets by doing so. The likes of Arsenal and Man Utd fill their grounds regardless.

If players in the prem took a roughly 12% pay cut from their average pay of 1.6 million a year, which incidentally would take average ordinary earner 55 years to accumulate, you could reduce ticket prices on an average 30k gate by £10.

If only our marketing department were so proactive when it comes to the clubs profile as they are at defending themselves we'd be a global force

There has been no mention that our actual cheapest season ticket price, is a concession at £99 for u11's. That means that the kids are paying £5.20 per game.

Oh, and just so's we know, if me paying a little extra means that the lads/Ladies with kids of a match going age, can take them, then I'm happy to.
In terms of ticket prices for anything, I'm paying £80 a seat for 3 seats at the Bellew fight coming up. That could easily be for 3 mins of boxing, throw in the Joshua fight and you have 3:20 of fighting (I know I'll see more but hey). nearly 40% of my season ticket price. This to watch a lad who I paid £40 to watch, ringside, in the Alexandra Palace.
If you want to go to the cinema these days, you'll likely be paying towards £10, regardless of age, before food.

Football is more expensive than it used to be, but so is everything. I dont think Everton do too badly in the scheme of things, and I hate to see us tarred with the same brush as the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool.
