The players..

When Pienaar last got time on the pitch he was utter gash. The lad is a lightweight with no pace. If you're going to argue we need to play wingers than Pienaar is the last player you want to bring on. He's not a winger, in fact he's only ever been a wide player by virtue of the fact that he had a very good relationship with Baines.

No pace, no strength, little ability to beat a man in a one on one. He's about as far from a winger as you could imagine. I'd rather Barkley out wide than him every day of the week.

I agree I think Pienaar's finished but he's still had 2 wingers on the bench whilst playing a central midfielder and striker out wide. Even Moist wouldn't have committed such treacherous acts.

He lost me when he mentioned McGeady was even fit enough to wear a Everton shirt....

Not good enough to start but offers a hell of a lot more on the wing that eto'o or barkley.

If you can't see the effect that having no natural wide players on the pitch has on the whole team and fullbacks in particular your clueless as to why we are so poor atm mate.

Playing Neville in midfield for most of his last season in charge is far worse than anything Martinez has ever done mate.

Don't know about McGeady to be honest. The lad shows flashes of pure ability but there's clearly something not right with him in training, he's had a similar problem with the last two clubs he's played for. Shows promise but isn't a regular starter because of his application and attitude.

OK. I'll take that I am clueless then....

Pienaar needs to be either brought back into the team or replaced next month, depending on whether he's struggling for form after injury or simply finished.

You can't really say he isn't a winger when he's been playing there for Everton since 2007. He doesn't have Kanchelskis-like pace and power, but unlike the square pegs Martinez has been forcing into round holes, he's intelligent enough to open up space with his movement and bring others into play.

I'd always find a place for him.

I can certainly say he's not a winger mate. He played on the left side of midfield for Everton for a long time, that doesn't make him a winger. Mirallas is a winger, Pienaar is not. He was very effective for us for a number of years out wide when paired with Baines, but that doesn't make him a winger.

He was excellent when paired with Lescott as well, and Oviedo last season. I don't know why people are always trying to play down his ability by insinuating he'd be nothing without Baines.

Whatever you want to call him, he's by far the best and most accomplished player Everton have when it comes to occupying the left side of midfield.

Anichebe out right, Rodwell out right lid. And many more than I've buried deep in my Everton memory bank that I wish to keep buried away.

In fairness this only occured because Gibson got injured. Firstchoice that season in centre mid was Osman and Gibson and at times we wiped the floor with teams. If Lukaku and Stones had been in that team we would have had a serious chance at fourth. Bad finishing and Jagielka and Distin bled points that season. Moyes leaving and the Wigan game distracted from what a promising season that was. The side was balanced like it was in 07/08, like it was last season. Neville was the only holding mid in the squad once Gibson was injured so he played and did a lot better than Barry this season.

In the Goodison derby Neville and Osman were in a team 2 down to Liverpool with Suarez leading the line. After that they turned it on andbattered them to get back to 2-2 with a great midfield display. Can you imagine this lot doing that? Barry upping the tempo? No. Neville got a harsh rap because ofhis latter years. Limited yes, but he never hid and was twice the captain Jagielka was. We are missing his character if not his footballing ability no question.

He had little football ability but, as you say, was more of a captain.

Jagielka gives me the impression that he's more likely to ask you back to his for a cup of tea than get in your face.
