The Parable of Moyes.

Say NO to Ginger Managers
As Based on the Story of Icarus.

Once there was a Brilliant Craftsman, who went by the name of Alex Ferguson. He was renowned for his craftsmanship, in creating Championship winning teams, which with outstanding wings flew to the very skies of world football. He flew so high as to be burnt by the media, but because of the super-glue that held his teams together; a winning mentality, he survived and was able to keep flying high.
Now Ferguson was in the Employment of Manchester United Football Club, and for many years there was a successful partnership, whereby they provided the money to create a team, and he put it together and helped them to fly. However, it couldn't last, and one day Ferguson said I'm getting to old to do this, so he searched for a successor. He found one in one David Moyes, who reminded Ferguson of days when he was younger. He was like a son to Ferguson. Like Fergie, David Moyes was renowned for his craftmanship, working under Everton who provided him with less money, which meant that he couldn't buy as expensive or effective a team. Despite this however, he was still successful and was able to fly high enough despite the obvious financial and material disadvantages. He could never quite reach the heights where he would be burnt by the media because of the hangover from this. However, unlike Fergie, Moyes depended on a Siege Mentality to hold his teams together.
Now when Ferguson finally retired, Manchester United expected him to fly as high as Fergie had. Now Moyes used the same old materials that Fergie did to make his teams, but continued to use his glue, that of a siege mentality. Now when Moyes flew as high as Fergie had, he was burnt by the media, and unlike Fergusons special "winning mentality" glue, his "siege mentality" glue did not hold up to the pressure, dissolving under the heat. Moyes kept flapping his wings but soon realized that he had no feathers left and that he was only flapping his bare arms, and so Moyes and Manchester United fell.

Such is the parable of Moyes

There's a myth surrounding Alex ferguson

From what I can remember his signings were as poor in the early days as they were in the latter days, they won a lot of games because the refs were terrified of Man U losing in case ferguson spat this chewy at them in the tunnel during one of his hair dryer efforts

Eric Harrison brought through a wealth of young talent,Scholes,Beckham,Neville Bothers,Butt etc were all at the club before Taggart so he can't take any credit for those players

Right place right time as far as I'm concerned, and moyes? Well we all know his record regarding young players, they'll buy and they'll pay over the odds a la mata for bog standard players, long may the decline continue

You can just imagine Moyes giving Georgie Best a few games - until he was say 20 or 21 - subbing him after an hour, making him track back for corners etc. He'd have built the team around Stiles not Law and Charlton or Best.

I don't want him to be fired because he'll come back as manager of say SLAND and be hard as hell to beat.

your photoshopping skills are mediocre at best

Saw this on the ol' FB today...

"The British Winter Olympic Team have approached David Moyes and offered him a position coaching the BobSleigh team as they've never seen anybody take a team downhill so fast."

I think moyes got shafted tbh. I certainly believe he used the siege mentality with us because he didn't feel he had the finance or players to do it differently. This certainly was correct in the first half of his tenure. The latter years I think he was wrong and under-estimated how good a team he had.

I also believe he is a clever man, and a good manager and would in No way walk into Man Utd believing he needed to implement a siege mentality onto a title winning side. He's was left an average team by SAF who overPerformed under fergie and No new manager apart from maybe a high profile mouriniho or simlar was going to get the same results as fergie.

The summer was a catastrophe for utd in the transfer market, you pick a utd/EFC side and it's much more split then it ever has been. Infact 5 yrs ago NO EFC player would of made the cut.

Moyes will do well Their eventually once he's signed a few. Ultimately tho I think he may struggle at the very top against the biggest teams/managers as he is flawed in his tactics/subs/mentality a little. Unless he improves of course.

Think it's very easy to forget how good he was for us in the main. We're enjoying watching him struggle and enjoying our own honeymoon period with a manager who does things very differently. But let's not forget RM has a better squad of players this season than moyes had at anytime IMO.

Are you saying Ferguson was not a great manager?

Him winning the title by 12 points with the team that lies 7th atm shows how talented he was

I think my post explains everything you ask

I give no credit for beckham etc, that's Eric Harrison's

Man U won fixtures because refs were terrified to give decisions against them, how many penalties were awarded at old Trafford, not many, how many red cards for Man U,not many, that's the ferguson factor

I bet there was a lot of refs breathing a huge sigh of relief when he finally announced his retirement

Yes he was a great manager but the myth exists to this father figure plucking these young lads from the bowels of amateur football and made them superstars,Man U never spent money for years and it wasn't until they had to that you found a weakness in old whiskey faces management

Look at his early signings and his latter signings,he's no wizard with magical powers he was around when massive amounts of money came into football and champions league football was formed, right place, right time

For Certain. Moyes as a manager was very good for us, he saved us from relegation and developed us as a clear mid to top side consistently in the league. However he went a bit stale towards the end. Without his solid foundations I doubt that we would be where we are with Bobby now. United won that title last year and competed for titles the last few years without a midfield. You can actually see this when Scholes was pulled out of retirement to play. Ferguson was able to continue to keep his players at the levels previously attained through his strength of will and the winning mentality he had constructed. He also had his influence which may or may not have allowed him to influence refereeing decisions in the tighter games. This has left Moyes with an aging team with players with severely depreciating value, no midfield to speak of, subpar wingers and a dodgy defence. However panic buys like Fellaini and some questionable tactics haven't helped his cause. However, unlike perhaps when he was with us, he has thrown subs on in an attempt to pro-actively change the game and like the most of his luck at the moment, it has gone sour most of the time. However what Moyes is good at is constructing a team, and if he is given time to sort out the issues in his squad I think we will see United challenging for titles again.

Props for what he has done to Rooney though, reinvigorated him when it looked like he was on the outer. Hopefully they only get Europa and finish 6th or something and so Rooney decides to move back to his childhood love of Everton.

Rooney couldn't be playing for a move could he?

Moyes has not reinvigorated the lad,the lasting moyes effect is a defender of quality announcing he is leaving end of the season, next day moyes announced its by mutual consent,I'm afraid this is the real moyes effect, quality players playing below par with bemused faces, aimless crosses into a penalty area to a player who liked it on the floor, huge lumped balls upfield and the most decorated footballer in English history being shown tactics on a note pad by Steve '9 games for derby' Round, quality players being coached by a player not deemed good enough for the club 10 years ago

Man U won't be signing players to take them to titles if they are not playing in the champions league and let's be honest they're not looking good for it are they,I see a bleak future for united unless they pay massive massive over the odds wages for players to sign for em

Moyes has Man U playing exactly the way he had us playing, and boy did we get fed up in the last season or two. The knives are out in force over on Red Cafe and in the papers. An article in The Independent went as far as saying Moyes was out of his depth at Man U.
