Can’t seem to find the answer to this online so not sure if someone on here knows it.

I was going to respec tonight to maximise my skills but wondering one thing: does your skill score in brackets (affected by gear/companions) help you reach the benchmarks?

For example I want 100 in Long Guns for the bonus and I have say +7 Long Guns on an item. Does this mean I only need to skill up to 97 to get that last bonus or does the game ignore the brackets and I just need to actually max it out even if it takes me over 100?

No. It raises your ability but it doesn't get you the benchmark.
