The Old European Cup Foreign Player Rule

Player Valuation: £40m
Anyone remember this?

Without sounding all Daily Mail on you all it would be interesting if the league put a similar rule in in the league system to help young English players come through.
Obviously I know this will no way happen due to laws/ sponsor money/ worldwide brands etc but it would be interesting to see how teams got on if you were only aloud 3 foreign players in your match day squad.

From our squad the following would be deemed as having to be included in the 3 foreign players
Joel
Oviedo
Kone
Lukaku
Mirallas
Besic
Deulofeu
Mori
Rodriguez
Coleman

The following would have UK passports so may be deemed eligible but then again there separate country's have FA's so could be considered foreign
Gibson (Born in Derry)
McGeady (Born in Glasgow)
Naismith
McCarthy (Born in Glasgow)

And the following have been in the country that long they have probably gained citizenship, if we had to pick 3 from our foreign list who would they be? Lukaku, Del & one other for me.

Also if this rule came in you would ocasionaly get boss teams from eartern Europe like Red Star Belgrade with a team full of stars
Howard
Pienaar

Anyway I wonder how other teams would fare if that rule all of a sudden came in

In the Champions League this season, in the 8 games played by English clubs, if this rule was enforced (within the probable home-grown framework), this would be the amount of foreign players needed to be dropped;

Manchester United;
vs PSV - De Gea, Depay, Mata, Martial, Blind, Herrera, Schweinsteiger, Darmian.
Bench: Rojo, Romero, Valencia, Fellaini, Schneiderlin

vs Wolfsburg - De Gea, Depay, Mata, Martial, Blind, Valencia, Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger, Darmian
Bench: Romero, Fellaini

Manchester City;
vs Juventus - Sagna, Kompany, Nasri, Kolarov, Bony, Mangala, Silva, Fernandinho, Toure
Bench: Caballero, Fernando, Aguero, Navas, De Bruyne, Demichelis, Otamendi

vs BMG - Sagna, Aguero, Kolarov, De Bruyne, Silva, Fernandinho, Demichelis, Otamendi, Toure
Bench: Caballero, Zabaleta, Navas

Arsenal;
vs Dinamo Zagreb - Ospina, Debuchy, Gabriel, Koscielny, Arteta, Özil, Giroud, Sanchez, Cazorla
Bench: Čech, Monreal, Flamini, Campbell

vs Olympiacos - Ospina, Gabriel, Koscielny, Özil, Sanchez
Bench: Čech, Debuchy, Mertesacker, Monreal, Campbell

Chelsea;
vs Maccabi Tel-Aviv - Begovic, Zouma, Baba Rahman, Oscar, Hazard, Remy, Willian, Azpelicueta,
Bench: Ivanovic, Ramires, Diego Costa

vs Porto - Begovic, Ivanovic, Zouma, Ramires, Mikel, Pedro, Diego Costa, Willian, Azpelicueta
Bench: Baba Rahman, Hazard, Kenedy

Would be disasterous for English clubs in Europe. I think the best thing for English players, however, would be the EPL losing their fourth UCL spot, so English players will have to leave to get Champions League with the blood, sorry oil-dripping clubs at the upper echelons of the table...

Yeah coz they're doing brilliantly at the moment.

TBH I think of the current big clubs, only Barça could have put out a truly top class team using the squads they've had over the last few years with that rule. In fact, under Guardiola, they were frequently annihilating teams using line ups that complied with that rule.
