The old 3-foreigners rule in European games

Would you re-instate it? Would it make a difference?

Are you sure these best player rules apply to the RS? I mean have you seen some of their buys?

But in all seriousness, I think there's a couple different ways to qualify for being "the best". One is having a certain number of appearances with your national team. I think Funes Mori actually got through because River Plate won a bunch of stuff while he was there.

There are already rules for the Premier League hence them buying large numbers of teenagers these days.

The stricter work-permit rules, approved by the Home Office on Friday, will came into force on May.

  • A player will have to have been registered with his club from the age of 15 - down from 18 - to qualify as 'home-grown'.
  • The minimum number of home-grown players in a club's first-team squad of 25 will increase from eight to 12, phased over four years from 2016.
  • At least two home-grown players must also be 'club-trained' players - defined as any player, irrespective of nationality, that has been registered for three years at their club from the age of 15.
  • Only the best non-EU foreign players will be granted permission to play in England.

I don't understand this distinction

I don't understand this distinction
the first have to have been at the Club from 15-18 to classify as home grown.
the second is any player who has received training at the club for three years at any point after the age of 15, he could have been bought as an 18 year old and would qualify after 3 years as 'Club trained' when he's 21.
First one ensures young players are brought through the system, the second recognises that some might be brought in later but still have been trained by the club.

Some teams would struggle with a Minimum 3 brits rule.

lets face it, this side of a catastrophic financial meltdown nothing will change. Though we think we are skint, we have our noses deep enough in the trough that we might be in serious strife if it did

Remember this rule? Remember being frustrated slightly by it in the ECWC of 1995/6?

Well, do you think it'd make a difference if it was brought back in? Would it "level the playing field" as the current cliche-of-the-moment goes? I could never see the point of qualifying for Europe, then not being able to field your best side in the competition that it qualified for.

For me, it was just too much red tape for the sake of it, but I'd love to see all the money teams absolutely fume over being knocked out of the CL.

I would say it would inflate the already inflated price of overpriced, overrated English players to even sillier levels.
