The North

Only downsides for me is the cost of living and the fact that people in central London tend to be moody compared to up north

Pretty large bloody downsides mate hahaha

"Apart from the cost of living here and having to deal with the other absolute bar stewards who live here, London is alright!"

Look, come on - the only reason you'd choose to live in that cesspit is because you have a job there that pays well and it's the only option because of how screwed the economy of this stupid country is. If you have a choice - if you are self employed, have a digital job or can work elsewhere for the same percentage of income - then you don't choose to live there, or if you do you quickly try and rectify that colossal mistake of a decision you made to do so.

That's just my view though, and it's admittedly biased, but not because I'm a 'northerner' - but because of my actual experience of the place. I've turned down actual money to avoid having to set foot in the place again. Proper 'Homer vs. New York' stuff for me.

It's not all outrageously expensive. I don't earn huge money and can afford to live here reasonably comfortably but then I don't have a huge family to support either and don't intend on ever having one either.

Its not more of a cesspit than any other major city in the UK, it's perhaps more violent in specific areas but I've lived here for about 3 decades now and never ever been mugged, robbed or anything like that... even when living in Hackney and Brixton back when they were really rough areas.

I live here because for me its the best city in the UK by an absolute mile and I gave plenty of reasons in the post you quoted as to why I think this is the case. Just walking around central London is enjoyable to me, the place is truly alive and buzzing pretty much 24/7. So much to see and do, you literally can't get bored unless you're just a horrendous dullard.

I am self employed and could theoretically go and live anywhere I want, and yet I choose London even though I know I could live a more luxurious lifestyle somewhere else. Ironically the only place id maybe swap it for is New York... which again I adore. I love massive cities, so do loads of people.

Its weird, you seem to think all Londoners hate London... they don't, in my experience most of them love it.

Perhaps because it took so long and cost so much to get there?

And they have to do it every day...

I blame the underground in rush hour, dealing with that every single morning is enough to make anyone vex'd.

I don't have to deal with that though and neither do loads of people. As I said it's an over exaggerated generalisation... plenty of friendly people about, just don't expect a smile from a random when you're all being compressed into a train at 8am on a Monday morning.

In before people who don’t live in London tell everyone how bad it is...oh no, too late, it only took 4 posts this time !

I absolutely love London, it’s got it’s probelms like most major cities but I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else in the U.K.

Arguably best nightlife in the world, great archecture and history, every music scene covered, tons of ridiculously good restaurants, so many different cultures represented and thus a huge diversity in the population.

Only downsides for me is the cost of living and the fact that people in central London tend to be moody compared to up north but generally speaking this is overhyped somewhat... plenty of friendly people about.

I can understand why it’s not to everyone’s tastes though but feel lots of people up north chat wham about it just because of the whole north v south thing. Same goes for southerners who chat wham about the north... it’s mostly ignorance.
its a great city . I lived there for 4 years myself. But I’d never live there again . It’s still great for the odd weekend away though .
